PLAN 7 - ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING, MANAGEMENT AND POLICIES

A variety of environmental problems affect the entire world. The ecological crisis, energy crisis, food crisis, financial crisis, the looming climate crisis as well as the upcoming global recession are all interrelated and interconnected and the only way of confronting them effectively is through integrated solutions.
Particular environmental problems, on a global, regional and local scale will be addressed in this session through proper management, planning and policies. The principles of sustainable development will be the cornerstones of this session.
Environmental Planning issues cover amongst others: natural resource planning and management, integrated land use, environmental and strategic impact assessment, risk analysis, project appraisal and auditing, urban and regional environmental planning, sustainable architecture and planning, sustainable – green – smart cities.
Research areas of Environmental Management include, but are not limited to: resource quality, quantity and sustainability, environmental economics and valuation, remediation of contaminated sites, process modification for pollution prevention, water and energy conservation, waste treatment and disposal, ecosystems and biodiversity management.
Environmental issues generally addressed by Environmental Policy include (but are not limited to): air and water pollution, waste management, ecosystem management, biodiversity protection, and the protection of natural resources, wildlife and endangered species. Papers considering the environmental dimensions of common policies (agriculture and fisheries, urban and rural, transport etc), environmental governance at different spatial levels, environmental policy instruments and environmental legislation are also encouraged.
